Hernando Rincón

Hernando is a user experience designer who has worked with international teams across industries such as software, travel, and sales. He is especially interested in healthcare solutions because they significantly impact people’s lives and show how design can benefit not just certain groups, but entire communities and populations.

He sees the design process as a system and takes a holistic approach to the entire product life cycle. This includes everything from understanding problems and researching users to defining ideas, prototyping, building, and supporting customers. By looking at the whole journey, he aims to balance user needs with what the business can offer. For him, it’s not about knowing everything, but about learning from every step along the way.

A DESIGN INSPIRATION

Being able to find a location using coordinates and maps has changed how we think about and perceive space, distance, and even time. GPS technology and interactive maps led to apps like Google Maps, Waze, and Uber. But the real change is not just about these apps. It’s about how our view of the world has shifted since this technology became part of our lives through designed experiences.

Now, we can see any place in the world instantly. The planet feels smaller than ever: I know where Socotra Island is and how far it is from my home. We’re not afraid to explore new cities because GPS apps guide us. We don’t need to remember our address or memorize routes anymore. We can track our deliveries, watch flights land in Miami or Kuala Lumpur, find a nearby Lime scooter, book a hotel on the road, and even share our location in real time. In short, I always know where I am in the world.

Paper maps and atlas books were my childhood reference. For some reason, I always had a strong sense of orientation and was fascinated by maps as a way to dimension the world and imagine what it was like. When GPS apps emerged, it felt like it was exactly what I wished for as a kid.
