A DESIGN INSPIRATION

I’ve always marveled at the elegance of the Ishihara color test. It’s self-explanatory, easy to administer, and still the most widely used tool to detect color vision deficiencies more than a century after its conception.
I’ve always found the plates themselves aesthetically beautiful, though they exemplify the idiom that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” By design, no viewer can perceive every figure in the series. They’re a powerful, paradoxical lesson in when it’s acceptable to violate an accessibility principle.
